We’re here to encourage you by accomplishing one basic objective: to provide you with sermons that seek to reflect the essential emphasis of 1 Corinthians 2:1-5 . . .
“When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony of God. For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power."
It’s so refreshingly simple, isn’t it? Paul’s apostolic methodology was shaped by a deep and abiding resolution: that the substance and style of his preaching ministry should reflect the triune nature of God Himself. His proclamation would be God’s word (“the testimony of God”), concerning the person and work of His Son (“Jesus Christ and him crucified”), set forth in the power of the Holy Spirit (“with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power”).
As such, the following list of sermons has been compiled with the heartfelt hope that you will detect in them an unquestionable devotion to the authority of God’s word, a relentless ambition to exalt Jesus Christ, and a persuasive potency supplied by the Holy Spirit. To the extent these ambitions are realized, all glory is due the Lord of the Church. Our prayer is that He will use them for your ongoing encouragement and maturity.
May God bless you.
